The Khom Loi's Promise

The legend

Long ago, in the mountains of the North, people believed that the sky listened to wishes too fragile to be spoken aloud.

When the season of Yi Peng arrived, they would light a khom loi and release it into the night. But the lantern was not simply meant to carry a wish. It carried a promise.

The elders said that a wish made with a selfish heart would disappear into the darkness. But a wish made by someone with a pure heart, someone who wished not only for themselves but also for the happiness of others, would find its way to the heavens.

And if the wish was sincere enough, the heavens might grant it.

They called it The Khom Loi's Promise.

Synopsis

Two young men leave Bangkok, each carrying a different kind of burden.

Pran is running away from a life shaped by expectations that were never truly his. Tired of having other people decide his future, he sets out on a journey north, hoping that somewhere along the road, he might finally discover who he wants to be.

Min, on the other hand, is running toward something. Living with a serious heart condition, he has grown tired of being treated as someone whose life must revolve around hospital appointments, medication, and restrictions. He wants to experience the world beyond his illness, and he has one destination in mind: Chiang Mai.

Min believes in an old legend called The Khom Loi's Promise. According to the tale, a sincere wish released into the night sky through a glowing lantern may find its way to the heavens and come true.

His wish is simple: to be cured and have the chance to live.

When their paths cross, Pran and Min decide to travel north together. Through ancient temples, quiet rivers, mountain roads, unfamiliar towns, and unexpected friendships, they begin to discover that the journey is changing them in ways neither anticipated.

As the Yi Peng festival approaches, their friendship deepens into something neither wants to lose. But while Min holds tightly to the promise of a miracle, Pran begins to understand that some journeys are not simply about reaching a destination. They are about learning to love, finding the courage to hope, and discovering what it means to truly live.

Under a sky filled with thousands of glowing lanterns, two wishes will rise.

But will the heavens answer?

Some promises are carried by lanterns. Others remain in the hearts of those who stay.
