In this book, in the beginning, simple DC-DC switching converters will be presented to illustrate not only their working mechanism but also their modeling using differential equations. After an introduction to the nature of switching converters, a novel converter topology will be presented, and its operation will be discussed. New control methods were investigated by the author and colleagues. This work was done in collaboration with researchers from Thailand, Iran, and France.
Since switching converters usually face varied loads and uncertain input energy sources, a controller should be used to maintain the desired stable operating point of the converters. In addition to using the conventional cascade control (two loops), we also propose using a high-bandwidth control loop, based on cutting-edge control methods.
The LC input filter, which is commonly located at either the input or output ports of the converter will be discussed. Its effect in handling a tightly controlled converter known as a constant power load (CPL) will be described.
This book also presents many new control methods, which are not only intended for engineers and researchers, but also for students of power electronics from the entry level to advanced level.
